New feedback from Parents + carers

Hello there,

Not long before Christmas now and we thought we would end the year on a good note.
We asked parents + carers who attend our Saplings colour sessions to give us some constructive feedback.

Here are some of the comments:

Beeswax candle making
Q: What do you think you and your child have learnt from this session?

"We have learnt about everyday objects, life, wildlife, food and colours."

"Working together to create some fantastic  art work."

"Sharing, making, getting stuck in, growing and building."

"That dirt is as much fun as chocolate!"

Corn + lentil play
Colour mixing
Q: What did you like about the session?

" The creativity of the activities."

" Varied themes and 'eco' ness."

" Nice activities and craft ideas, which are  multi- sensory."

Berry ink hand prints

Paper cutting + collage

Q: Was there anything you disliked about the session?

"No except we have to travel from Thackley to come here!"

Coffee paints

Our Saplings sessions are colour themed because colour is a simple concept that young children can relate well to, recognise and learn.
Colour also ties in fantastically with the seasons and this is a great way to introduce children to the natural world whilst encouraging basic artistic concept.
Each of our sessions are carefully written and developed to suit children ages 2 - 5 years and to stimulate a minimum of 3 of the senses.
Most of the materials we use are sustainable, ethically sourced, taken from nature or community raised.
Each session has 2 activities; music; toys; songs and a story which  focus on the colour.
1 of our activities is an adult and child shared activity, this focuses on developing fine motor skills and encouraging creative interaction.
It is also a great way for adults to learn new skills too!
Start of session
We have a relaxed and calm structure which is child led.
Adults and children are invited to join us at the start of the session and we encourage children to practise a small amount of  brain gym. This helps to focus the children and bring us together.
We briefly explain the colour for the week in line with what is happening in the natural world and show examples of the activities for that session.
We explain how to make the activity and any risk factors for adults to consider.
Each session is individually risk assessed.

End of session
Adults and children are invited to join us at the end of the session for a story or a poem and songs relating to the colour of the week.
We sing the rainbow song every week, to celebrate colour.
Finally, we give a mission for the week and discuss the focus for the colour for the next week.

The sessions last for 1 hour.

Sessions are term time only.

Please contact us for any more details about the sessions

South Craven School Recycled Pond Sculpture

Sponge Tree have now completed their South Craven sculpture.
We recommend the school add potted long grasses in the corners of the space and this will finish the pond off nicely.

We have found this project a very good learning experience for us and we are very pleased with the finished result!

Baildon Jubilee Banners

The Jubilee banners which were created by 1300 children from the four Baildon Primary Schools. Every child created a piece of red, white + blue felt to help create these fantastic commemorative pieces of artwork. Sponge Tree's Nicola and Paula designed, managed and created the finished pieces of art. Each banner is now ready to return back to each Primary School to display in their place of choice.
Sponge Tree would like to say a huge thank you to:
Q20 Theatre, Baildon Parish Council, Bradford Council, The Lord Mayor Dale Smith, All the wonderful children, parents and staff at each Baildon Primary School, Sponge Tree staff and volunteers (you know who you are), Staff at Baildon Library, Baildon Belles and to every one who has supported and helped to make this wonderful project a possibility.
We hope each banner will take pride of place in each school, to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee 2012.

Please click on this link to see photos of each completed banner
