Due to our extensive knowledge and experience of working with children, Sponge Tree have recently started providing regular creative classes for children ages 6 and above.
These creative classes allow children to have 1 hour a week after school, to explore their creativity.
1 hour doesn't seem like near enough time to us (as Sponge Tree spend a lot of our time being creative) but this session introduces children to making a variety of creative choices out side of the class room environment.
All schools offer different creative experiences within the creative curriculum. But we feel children can benefit from having a dedicated, regular creative space and time.
All children need time and space to be able to create and to use their creativity, what ever that may be.
When was the last time your child spent an hour learning how to build a sculpture or create a piece of felt, which didn't have to relate to anything in the school curriculum?
“Creativity is as important now in education as literacy and we should treat it with the same status.”

Children need the time to just enjoy experimenting, exploring and learning through new experiences.
At one of our creative classes I asked the children if it was too quiet and if they would like me to put some music on. The majority of children answered back with a definite "No! We like it quiet, it's just too noisy at school." To us that says it all. Today's children want time out from the hustle and bustle of life.
Our creative classes are designed with weekly projects to complete, for those children who need direction. But we also encourage free flow thinking and children to set there own pace. We want children to be able to confidently use their own imagination, skills and thoughts. This confidence will allow children to make their own innovative decisions and to problem solve.
“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.”

Our art clubs show children how to create new ideas and techniques such as print making, clay work, painting, sculpture, drawing, book binding, mixed media and also traditional crafts such as weaving, felting, sewing, basketry and knitting.
